Unhastening Humanity's Heat Death

All societies rise and fall. Some stay a while and fade with grace.
Some rocket to prominence and collapse just as spectacularly.
And I fear we are in the latter. In the past, collapse meant turmoil and unrest.
But I fear we are headed towards something worse.
Oblivion, a perpetual sameness, dulled senses.
Void of change, bereft of energy to do something new.
Empty existence. A swift heat death.

Stars, drawn together by gravity;
orbiting, colliding, giving rise to new celestial bodies.
Their dance weaves a wispy net, a community spanning the cosmos.

Equal parts transient and beautiful.
Let it stay as long as it may, but no longer…
and no shorter.

However, there are energies that seek to hasten the dance;
have it end quicker than it otherwise would.

Dark energies with an insatiable need for expansion, enter the gaps between the net.
They creep slowly at first, but then quickly advance and pull the stars apart.

Before long they find their net in tatters,
each star an isolated blip floating in the void with no sense of purpose or direction.
They flicker out one by one in silence, alone and unknown.

SO sad a way to go.
BELOW is another way.

The stars see what's at stake and hold on tightly to each other.
They build close-knit communities,
cultivate and express their light until they can no longer.

Their joint gravitational attraction un-hastens the impending heat death.

They bow out, basking in the spotlight of their collective radiance.
A more dignified and luminous end.
